Sandals Reverses Fuel Surcharge

Sandals will not implement a fuel surcharge in January as previously announced. Chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart stated  ”No one disputes the very real challenge of meeting escalating energy costs,   but we respect and highly value the opinion of our travel partners who are on the consumer front lines. We always want to do what is in their best interest and therefore after much discussion with them, we feel that now is not the time to enact this new policy.”

Jamaica hotels to add fuel surcharges

The Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association (JHTA) has announced its support of a hotel occupancy surcharge effective December 15, 2007.  Sandals and Beaches properties in Jamaica will charge $4.00 per person per night up to a maximum of $8.00 per room per night effective January 1, 2008.  At this time, Couples Resorts management has announced that no surcharge will be added at the four Couples Resorts in Jamaica.

Other hoteliers will make announcements in the coming days and the Jamaica Tourist Board plans to put an announcement on its web site.
